Twenty-three years ago I began a film on American Vogue’s legendary fashion editor, Polly Mellen. I have a lot of shame that this amazing footage has languished in my archives for decades. Yet, sometimes things happen when the time is right. Last year, I had a revelation. The world has radically changed. Polly embodies what has been lost. The last great doyenne of fashion, and I have four years of footage, a treasure trove. One of the films’ many moments – Polly was complaining bitterly about attending a Victoria’s Secret fashion show. “It’s jiggle time. So crass!” Of course, I filmed the whole thing. Backstage with Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, Stephanie Seymour and Gisele Bunchen, Polly outshined them all. Exiting the show, I asked if she regretted going. She said, “I take it back. I take it ALL back. Loved!” That’s Polly.
The documentary “Polly” to be released Summer 2021.
It features Tom Ford, Andre Leon Talley, Vera Wang, Isaac Mizrahi, Amber Valetta, Christy Turlington, and a special performance by Alan Cumming.
